Ronald M. "Nick"  Ballard
Ronald (Nick) M. Ballard born March 4, 1942 in Chester, Pennsylvania and passed away at the age of 76 on August 17, 2018 at home in Chester, Pennsylvania.
Mr. Ballard’s was raised in Chester by his beloved Aunt Peaches (Ethel M. Thorgood) after his mother, Mary Ballard passed away when he was five years old. He attended school in Chester, Pennsylvania. He served in the United States Army from 1959 until 1962. After completing basic training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina in September 1959 he then completed MP training and for a time was a Military police officer. After a height requirement change he transferred to Fort Campbell, KY and became a paratrooper with the 101st Airborne of the 502nd Infantry group. After being discharged from the service he worked as a welder and spent a good portion of his career at Phoenix Steel in Marcus Hook, PA. In 1976, he became a Merchant Seaman for the Sun Oil Co. - traveling down the East coast through the Gulf of Mexico to and up the West Coast. During his visits home he would tell stories of his travels and adventures at sea. Later in his career he worked at Community Transit Services as a patient transport driver until his retirement. Even after retirement he maintained a part-time position at Strath-Haven Condominiums in Swarthmore, PA until 2017.
Mr. Ballard was married to Patricia Mary (Parrington) Ballard until her passing on November 24, 2011. He is survived by his children, Anthony Jay and wife Carole Freeman, Chrystal Denise Hatchett, Tia Marie Sanders, Carla Kane and pre-deceased by his youngest daughter, Angel Terri Ballard. He has 9 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. One in particular, Jaydan, spent most of his time with “Pop-Pop” not only as grandson but as “best friend” companion and helper. He also leaves his close and loving cousin, Jacqueline R. Bond as well as multiple nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A private Memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 25th, 2018
