Ms. Shirley took on the role of being a Mother and caregiver to family and friends, while dedicating over 15 years to pursuing a career with the Federation of Puerto Rico in Brooklyn, NY. She was a devoted mother and her grandchildren were the joy of her life. Her strong will to live was expressed in her willingness to give a helping hand and she did so without hesitation, from being Mother of the Church at Fairview and Cross Connections to helping at local daycare centers.
Shirley’s great sense of humor and her “quick wit” was enjoyed by all who loved her. Her smile and hearty laughter would light up the room during her many “get togethers”. Shirley was sweet and loving and at the same time nobody messed with her.
She was her family’s matriarch and words cannot express the void she has left.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Kim Hunter and Contessa Hunter of Chester, P.A; her grandchildren: Charles Hunter of Queens, NY, Tynasia McAllister, Janelle Milne-Price, Chantel Milne-Price and Makayla Allen-Hunter of Chester, PA; her great grandchildren: Khalil Hunter, Hakeem Hunter and Egypt Hunter of Queens, NY ; her siblings: Joan Keith, Jeanette Blair, Annette Tate, Lamar Lewis and Willie Roy Lewis of Vidalia, GA. Preceding her in death are her Father and Mother, Orlando and Effie Lewis and 5 siblings: Retha Mae Thompson, Carry Jenkins, John Wesley Lewis, Nathaniel Lewis and Orlando Lewis Jr. She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
